SLEEP DISORDERS

Sleep disorders are conditions that disrupt sleep and can negatively impact physical and mental health. The most common sleep disorders are insomnia, sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, circadian rhythm disorder, and narcolepsy.

Insomnia is one of the most common sleep disorders, affecting around 30% of the population. People with insomnia find it difficult to fall asleep, often wake up during the night and wake up early in the morning. Insomnia can be caused by stress, anxiety, depression, pain, or taking medication.

CBD

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a natural compound found in the cannabis plant.

Unlike its cousin, THC, CBD is not psychoactive, which means it does not cause euphoric or perception-altering effects. CBD has become increasingly popular in recent years, due to its medicinal properties.

It is used to relieve inflammatory pain, chronic pain, neuropathic pain, arthritis, fibromyalgia, nerve pain, as well as to reduce inflammation and help relieve these pains.

CBD AND SLEEP

Recent research has shown that CBD can help improve sleep quality by reducing anxiety and stress, which often disrupt sleep. Additionally, CBD can help regulate our internal biological clock, called the circadian rhythm.

Additionally, multiple studies have shown that CBD can relieve chronic and neuropathic pain, as well as reduce inflammation. In 2018, in a study of fibromyalgia patients, those who received CBD experienced a significant reduction in pain compared to those who received a placebo. Another study the same year showed that CBD can also help reduce neuropathic pain.

CBN: THE SLEEP MOLECULE

CBN is a cannabinoid naturally formed when THC breaks down. Unlike THC, CBN is not psychoactive, but is known for its sedative and sleep-inducing properties, making it a popular choice for people with insomnia.

Studies in humans and rats have shown that CBN increases total sleep time and reduces the time it takes to fall asleep. CBN may also have analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties, but more studies are needed to confirm these findings in humans.

Although CBN research is still ongoing, current findings suggest that CBN could be a potential treatment for sleep disorders and other health conditions.

OPTIMIZE YOUR SLEEP

In addition to the use of natural remedies such as CBD and CBN, here are some tips to follow:

Establish a sleep routine : Going to bed and waking up at regular times each day can help regulate the sleep cycle. It's also important to create a relaxing ritual before sleeping, such as having herbal tea or reading a book.

Create an environment conducive to sleep : the bedroom should be dark, cool and quiet. Investing in a comfortable pillow and quality bedding can also help improve sleep.

Avoid stimulants : Caffeine and other stimulants can disrupt sleep. It is therefore recommended to avoid caffeine and other stimulants several hours before going to bed.

Exercise regularly : Physical activity can help reduce stress and anxiety, which can improve sleep quality. However, it is important not to exercise too late at night, as this can disrupt sleep.

Avoid blue light : Blue light emitted from television, computer and cell phone screens can disrupt sleep by suppressing the production of sleep hormones like melatonin. It is therefore recommended to avoid screens before going to bed or to use blue light blocking glasses.

Take a nap : A short nap (about 20 to 30 minutes) can help bridge sleep deprivation and improve alertness during the day. However, it is important not to take too long a nap, as this can disrupt nighttime sleep.
